Tabla de tallas asiáticas a US: qué significan XL y 170/88A

Asian size to US size usually means going about one letter larger in the US (an Asian M often fits like a US S–M). This chart compares Japan/US body measurements, explains what codes like 170/88A mean, and shows how Asian XL, L and M map for tops.

Asian Size to US Size Chart

There is no single "Asian size." Japan, Korea, and China use different charts, and other Asian brands set their own. The UNIQLO comparison is a decent starting point because the same brand publishes body measurement charts for both Japan and US shoppers.

The women's charts don't line up as neatly as the men's, but the pattern holds: a Japan letter usually lands about one letter below the US letter, with some overlap. A Japan L (bust 85–91 cm, hip 92–98 cm) sits in the same place as a US S (bust 83–89 cm, hip 91–97 cm). If your bust and hip point to different rows, go with the larger one for dresses and fitted tops.

Men's chest ranges line up exactly: every Japan letter covers the same 8 cm chest band as the US letter one step down. So if you wear a US M, start with a Japan L.

What Is an Asian XL in US Size?

In the UNIQLO men's body chart, Japan XL chest is 104–112 cm. That is the same range as US L, 104–112 cm, so a men's Asian XL equals a US large.

In the women's chart, Japan XL is 91–97 cm bust, 75–81 waist, and 98–104 hip. The waist matches US L (75–81 cm) exactly, while the bust and hip fall between US M and US L, so a women's Japan XL fits like a US M to L.

That's a useful shortcut, but it comes from one brand. Other Asian labels, including the independent designers EastLyst carries, publish their own charts, so check the product page before you order.

Medium Size in Asian vs US M

For men, Japan M chest is 88–96 cm. That matches US S exactly, also 88–96 cm. Both charts also list the same 165–175 cm height range.

Women's Japan M lists 81–87 cm bust, 65–71 waist, and 88–94 hip. US S lists 83–89, 65–71, and 91–97, so a Japan medium is closer to a US small than a US medium.

If you normally take a US men's medium, your chest is in the 96–104 cm range. In UNIQLO Japan, that is a Japan L, not M.

Chinese Size to US: How to Read 170/88A

China's national garment sizing standard GB/T 1335 labels sizes as height/girth plus body type. In a size like 170/88A, 170 is body height in cm, 88 is chest in cm for tops or waist for bottoms, and A is the body-type code.

Body type comes from the chest-waist difference. Men: Y is 17–22 cm, A is 12–16 cm, B is 7–11 cm, C is 2–6 cm. Women: Y is 19–24 cm, A is 14–18 cm, B is 9–13 cm, C is 4–8 cm.

Heights step in 5 cm, chest sizes in 4 cm. A 170/88A top has an 88 cm chest. That falls in UNIQLO US men's S, 88–96 cm, so it roughly compares to a US small.

Asian Shirt Size: Shoulders, Length and Fit

For a shirt, the most useful body points are chest at the fullest part, waist at the natural waist, hips at the fullest part, and shoulders edge to edge across the back. Keep the tape level and compare those numbers to the product chart.

Asian shirt size differs by brand, so chest and body length usually tell you more than the letter. Oversized and dropped-shoulder cuts are cut with extra room. On those styles, the shoulder seam sits below the shoulder point on purpose, so shoulder width matters less.

When browsing EastLyst, open the size chart on each men's tops and shirts product page and compare the numbers to a shirt you already own.

How to Measure Yourself Before Ordering

Use a flexible tape. Keep it snug but not pulled tight, and keep it level.

Chest or Bust

Measure around the fullest part with the tape level. For jackets, shirts and structured tops, also check the garment chest and intended fit.

Waist

Measure around your natural waistline, usually the narrowest part of your torso. For trousers that sit lower on the waist or hips, check the product measurement instead of relying only on your natural waist. Our guide on how to measure your hips, waist and pants size walks through each step.

Hips

Measure around the fullest part. Fitted trousers, skirts and dresses depend on this number most, so check it before ordering.

Shoulders

Measure from the edge of one shoulder to the other across the back. This affects jackets, shirts and outerwear, unless the piece has a dropped-shoulder cut on purpose.

Inseam

Measure from the crotch seam down the inside of the leg to your preferred trouser length. Wide-leg, cropped and oversized trousers may use different proportions deliberately. A product chart's "Length" is not an inseam unless the brand defines it that way.

Asian Size vs US Size: Why Charts Disagree

Asian sizing to American sizing comparisons can disagree because different charts measure different things. Some list body measurements, which UNIQLO calls nude dimensions. Others list finished garment measurements taken from the sewn product.

Body Measurements vs Garment Measurements

A body measurement describes your body. A garment measurement describes the piece of clothing. If your chest is 96 cm, you should not look for a jacket with a 96 cm garment chest; the garment needs extra room, called ease. A fitted shirt has little ease. An oversized streetwear jacket can be much wider than your body on purpose. Garment chest and body chest are not interchangeable because the amount of extra room depends on the cut.

Charts may give body measurements, garment measurements, or recommended measurements per size. Check which type the chart uses. UNIQLO calls body measurements "nude dimensions" and explains the difference in its guide: UNIQLO's guide to body and product measurements. Compare body numbers with your body and garment numbers with a garment you own. Mixing them is the most common way to end up a size off.

Flat Chest Width vs Chest Circumference

Some charts give chest width measured across the garment laid flat, armpit to armpit. If the chart defines it as half-chest, doubling gives approximate garment circumference: 54 cm flat is about 108 cm around the garment. That is not a 108 cm body chest size. Do not double a value already labeled circumference. If a chart only says "chest" or "bust", check its diagram or ask before comparing with your body. The same applies to waist widths.

CM to Inches: Clothing Measurement Conversion

Divide centimeters by 2.54 to get inches. Multiply inches by 2.54 to get centimeters. One inch is exactly 2.54 cm per NIST conversion data.

Examples: 76 cm is about 29.9 in; 96 cm is about 37.8 in; 104 cm is about 40.9 in; 109 cm is about 42.9 in. Convert the measurement, not the letter size. Rounding is fine for comparing charts, but it does not remove a garment's 1–3 cm measuring tolerance.

76 29.9
88 34.6
96 37.8
104 40.9

How to Pick Your Size on EastLyst

Open the size chart on each product page. EastLyst's independent designers set their own measurements, so compare garment lengths and widths to a similar item you already own. Start with women's tops or men's tops and shirts to check individual product charts.

For shirts, compare chest, shoulder and sleeve with a shirt you already own.

For a relaxed shirt, check chest, shoulder, and body length. The photo can show whether the shoulder is cut straight or dropped, but the numbers confirm the fit.

The 7440 Pleated Adjustable Utility Trousers chart lists length, waist, hip, and leg opening in cm. S: length 107, waist 72–84, hip 98, leg opening 42. M: length 109, waist 76–88, hip 102, leg opening 44. L: length 111, waist 80–92, hip 106, leg opening 46. Manual measurement variation is 1–3 cm.

The 7440 trousers chart lists length, waist, hip and leg opening in centimeters.

Outerwear charts work the same way. On the VLABMADE Western Faux-Leather Collar Corduroy Jacket, compare chest, shoulder, and length in cm with a jacket you already own rather than relying on the letter size alone.

If you are between sizes, compare waist and hip first for trousers. If the numbers still don't answer your question, contact EastLyst with the product name and the measurements you're comparing.

FAQ

What is Asian XL in US size?

In UNIQLO's body charts, a men's Japan XL chest of 104–112 cm matches the US L chest of 104–112 cm. For women, Japan XL (bust 91–97 cm, waist 75–81 cm, hip 98–104 cm) falls between US M and US L. Other brands may differ.

What is a medium in Asian size?

In the UNIQLO men's chart, a Japan medium has an 88–96 cm chest, the same as a US small. For women, a Japan medium is 81–87 cm bust, 65–71 cm waist, and 88–94 cm hip, which is closer to a US small. Always check the product chart.

Is Asian sizing smaller than American sizing?

In many charts, yes. UNIQLO Japan letters run about one letter below US sizes for the same body. A Japan M equals US S for men, and a Japan XL equals US L. But Japan, Korea, and China do not share one chart, so the rule is not universal.

What does 170/88A mean on Chinese clothes?

Under China's GB/T 1335 standard, 170 is height in cm, 88 is chest in cm for tops or waist for bottoms, and A is the body-type code. Body type is based on the chest-waist difference. An 88 cm chest falls in the UNIQLO US men's small range.

What is a US M in Asian size?

A US men's medium has a chest of 96–104 cm in UNIQLO's chart. That matches a Japan large, not a Japan medium. For women, a US M (bust 87–93 cm, waist 69–75 cm, hip 95–101 cm) falls between a Japan L and a Japan XL.

Should I always size up in Asian clothing?

Not always. In UNIQLO's chart, converting from US to Japan usually means moving one letter up, but that is one brand. Oversized and dropped-shoulder cuts already have extra room, so check chest and body length rather than automatically sizing up.

What is Asian XXL in US size?

UNIQLO Japan men's XXL covers 112–120 cm chest. UNIQLO US lists the same chest range for men's XL, so a men's Asian XXL is roughly a US XL. For women, Japan XXL is bust 97–103, waist 81–87, and hip 104–110 cm. That is closest to US L (bust 93–99, hip 101–107). Other brands differ; check the product chart.

Why do sizes differ between brands?

There is no single Asian size standard. Each brand grades its own letters. Cut matters: cropped lengths, dropped shoulders, relaxed tailoring, and fitted cuts. Fabric matters too; stretch knitwear and rigid denim behave differently. Oversized pieces add volume by design, so sizing down changes the shape. Check each product, even from a designer you bought from before. A size that worked for a loose shirt may not suit a structured jacket.

How do I convert cm to inches?

One inch equals 2.54 cm exactly. Divide centimeters by 2.54 to convert to inches. A 96 cm chest divided by 2.54 is about 37.8 inches, and a 104 cm chest is about 40.9 inches. Use this for chest, waist, and hip measurements.
